Unable to install .net framework and software

Problem Description: I am unable to install .net framework
1.1 update. I have another program that uses .net
framework 1.0 as well and it will not install either. I
suspect that the two problems are related. When I try to
install the update it says that windows installer
component cannot be found. I downloaded windows installer
2 but it did not change anything. The other program that I
tried to install was Switched on Schoolhouse. I just keep
getting errors during the installation. I had 5 different
2908 errors, 1935 error and a 1603 error. Please help. The
Switched on Schoolhouse is important to get installed. It
is a computer school curriculum that I use for my
homeschooled children.
