We have a computer that crashed. It would not go past the Windows ME screen.
We finally were able to reinstall Windows. However, we have not been able to
install IE 6 SP-1. It begins to download, goes from 1% jumps to 87% and
finishes the installation. Then we get an error message saying "Setup was
unable to install all the components. Please close all applicaations and try
running Setup again."

We have tried both the minimal installation, and complete, but to no avail.
It just won't load.

We have discovered 36 bad sectors on our hard drive, if this makes any
difference.

We were able to install update Q328389.

Any ideas?

Linda,

For the "unable to install all components" issue in WinME, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

Thanks Zee.

It worked perfectly, and we were able to download the additional critical
updates needed once SP-1 was installed.
