unable to import from csv to memo field

When I import data from a csv flat file to access, the memo datatype columns
are truncated at 255. I found a lot of information about various operations
on the data that result in trucating it, but I can't even get the data in.
The source data is in csv, and I created the table with specific columns as
"Memo" data type that I expect to have long strings (not too long, about 2k).
Any help is appreciated.
BTW, Access query performance totally rocks compared to mysql.
