hello all

after "trying" to upgrade bigjay i turned my attention to fixing my own problem
of a delayed write failure brought on by what i thought was a hard drive issue.

my pc consists of
gigabyte 965P-DS4
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz
2 x 1gig giel pc400
Nvidia GeForce 7900 GTX 512meg
hitachi deskstar sata 160gig
samsung sata 250gig
maxtor sata 160gig
pioneer dvd-rw 111d

so i decide to get rid of the 2 x 160 sata and replace with a seagate 500gig sata2,
i whip the maxtor 160 gig out and replace with the seagate 500gig.

reboot and find the drive isnt shown, now i presume the sata drivers are already on as i use them already, so im a bit confused as to why it cant at least see the new drive.

i think i must be missing something really easy

ive googled but all it really came up with was installing drivers on windows setup i.e. f6

thanks for reading

When booted, did Windows detect it as a new hardware device and try to install?

Has it been formatted?

It needs formatting.

Go to Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management >> Storage >> Disk Management

Your new drive should show there, where by right clicking on it you'll be able to format the drive.

So....not happy with buggering my PC up, you have to do the same to your own!

:p

I know you are glad to have the problem with yours sorted(we hope).
PC's can be one of the most frustrating hobbies to be interested in, if something goes wrong..there are so many possible causes!!!
I'm not going to start on my dvd burner
