Installing extra SATA Hardisk to a RAID system

Hi. Hope someone can answer to my simple question. Hope it is just
Yes or No answer and hope there's not too much configuratio
required... fingers crossed :D

I have a PC system with 4 SATA port (1,2,3 and 4)

Now I already have 2 SATA hardisk (connected to SATA1 and SATA2), the
are 2 x 160Gbyte WesternDigital, configured to run RAID0

Can I buy just a single SATA drive, say a new 300Gb Maxtor, and the
connect it to SATA3

Will it auto detect and appear as a new drive in Windows? I don't wan
it to be RAID, I just want an extra drive for backup. I want to forma
it as NTFS

And later on in the future, can I then buy another extra drive an
connect it on SATA4 and run as another drive (but not RAI
configuration)

Cheers guys

It depends on what sata controller you have. For some: Yes, quite easily,
actually. For others: well, it takes TONS of work.

Try it.

On the ICH6R, it's no problem. The drives are handled in the chipset, and
it's a pretty good one. I was looking at some intel documents, and you
should be fine
