Unable to enter chat room

When I attempt enter a chat room, all I get is a little box with a red x in
the upper left corner. I recently purchased my current laptop, and I made
adjustments to the settings, etc. The first time i attepted to enter a chat
room a window popped up, which i think had to do with the entry problem. The
problem is I don't remember what it was because I checked the box never show
his again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

a chat room? Which chat service? Do you have Java installed?

The chat service is Talk City. I not for sure whether or not Java is
installed. This is my first computer, so my knowledge is limited. How would
I know this? Thank you.
