Hello William,

In windowsupdate.log scroll to the very end of this log file, and then
work back to the beginning of that last update attempt.
-

Do a manual visit to Windows Update with Internet Explorer.

Select the Windows Defender update

[ Start > Windows Update or open IE, click Tools, Windows Update ]

When the installations/update fail, close IE.

Now go to Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Click OK or press Enter

Please post the last 50 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log into your reply
and hopefully, we'll see what the issue is.

Please go to the Microsoft Security Portal and download the latest update
there. If that is successful, it may clear up the problem by itself--keep
an eye on it and see if it auto-updates within a week or so.

www.microsoft.com/security/portal

go to the right column, and download the 32-bit definitions for Windows
Defender, unless you are certain you are running a 64-bit Windows version.
