Unable to download files

My homepage was hijacked so I need to download a program
to fix the registry. However, whenever I do a right-
click and "Save Target As" I get the following message:

Internet Explorer cannot download <the name of file> from
download.com.com.

Internet Explorer was unable to open the internet site.
The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be
found. Please try again.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
