unable to download critical updates

I am having a problem with my pc freezing up, I was told
to download windows updates. I have 4 critical updates to
download, but, In the process of downloading, my pc will
freeze up. Please help me, what can I do?

Installing critical updates is unlikely to cure a sys freeze, you need to
cure that first.
Have you installed anything prior to sys becoming unstable?
Does freeze occur at anytime or with a particular activity.
If you start in safe mode does the sys run OK
