Unable to download attachments

I am very new at this computer stuff. But suddenly, I am not able to open
attachments from e-mails. I have found several discussion threads about this
problem, and how to fix it,with Outlook. But I am not using Outlook. My
e-mail is coming to me from hotmail. The error message is....

Internet Explorer cannot download...tmail.com&lang=EN&Country = US from
64.4.43.250
Internet Explorer was not able to open the internet site.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Your first problem is that you arfe using Hotmail. I gave up on them a couple
years ago when I kept getting my mailbox filled with spam from day one of
opening an account. I tried it 3 times with the same result. Hotmail has
always been buggy. You may want to try setting up an account at www.mail.com.
I have used then for 2 years with no problems at all. Wish I can be of more
help.

You could contact tech support from Hotmail for support. But, your error
message reads that it cannot open the website??? Downloading an attachment
from an email is not from a website but from a sender that he/she attached
for you to download. Your setup for email is incorrect for downloading
attachments. Check your settings.

Byte, thank you for your help. Here is what happens. I click on the
attachment in hotmail. Then I get back a message saying that the attachment
contains no virus. I click on download and then get a message box that says
"security warning" and asks me if I want to "Open" or "save." When I click
on either open or save, that is when I get the message about not being able
to find the internet site. I hate to sound dumb on this stuff, but could you
be a little more specific on how to fix the problem.
Thanks,
Oldtom

What's in the world is going on with Hotmail? I have the same EXACT
problem as OldTom. When I try to download a Hotmail attachment, I
receive an Internet Explorer error box which states: "Internet Explorer
cannot download...tmail.com&_lang=EN&country=US from [IP address]".
Underneath that, it states, "Internet Explorer was not able to open
this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot
be found. Please try again later."
Would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Mike,
I hope that we can get this frustrating problem resolved. I am not sure if
we have a hotmail problem, a windows problem, or a McAfee virus scan issue.
I have spent some time on line with a McAfee support person. They weren't
very helpful. I have also gone to another computer at the local library and
was able to download the attachments successfully. I don't think the problem
is within hotmail. A previous post from Byte said to check the e-mail
settings. But I don't know what that means. Do you have a clue on that?

I have been having the same problem for quite a while. It has to be a
service pack 2 problem, because I can get attachments from any other computer
when I sign into hotmail. So, it is not a hotmail, Symatec or, any other
company's problem. It has to be a Microsoft problem. Did all of you
download the service pack 2 a few months ago? I think that's when the
problem started. I've searched through all of the support documents for SP 2
and downgraded my internet security to medium/low, but still no fix. I'm
going to write to microsoft next.

amw2003, I agree with you. This trouble began at about the same time as the
SP 2 download. It sounds like we have tried the same fixes without success.
When you get a response from Microsoft, please post the solution.

I have the same problem but its not with Windows XP, i have problems with
Windows 2000, tried to make a new profile. It worked for a while and now its
back again, so i don't think it is a Service Pack 2 Issue.....

I am so glad to hear this - I am having the exact problems with Hotmail
I cannot open any attachment no matter what type. I get an error bo
with a long string and then it says "IE cannot open from nn.nn.nn.nn
where the nn s a different IP-looking address. I must forward my emai
to my office to open the attachment. This has recently has started t
happen and I think was after a recent montlhly Windows Update download
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 with all the latest patches, an
upgrades. And yes I have many virus/spyware checkers. And no it's no
my firewall because a disabled that briefly to see if that made
difference. I also lowered the IE security setting and that didn'
work. Has anyone fixed this
