Unable to detect hardware, why?

I am using Win XP Pro
Got myself a Sony EIDE internal RW-ROM as the secondary IDE master with my hardisk as primary IDE master
My mother board have only IDE slots for this CDROM and hardisk. And this CDROM do not need any drivers for WIN XP
I could onyl see and use my RW-ROM under safe mode, whereas under normal boot up conditions, WIN XP couldnt even detect hardware automatically or even when I use device manage to add new hardware

Please advise, I do not want to keep using safe mode

Hi Vincent,

Just a guess to give you something to do until you find an answer, but
have you looked in your BIOS to make certain Pnp is enabled?
