Unable to deinstall Defender Beta 2

The final version of WD seems to require a deinstall of the beta 2 version
that I was using so far (although my version was not explicitily mentioned in
the installation notes). The deinstallation seems to require the
WindowsDefender.msi file used earlier for installing the beta 2. As is didn't
save it explicitely (just executed directly it from the temporary internet
files cache), I have no access to the msi file anymore.

Now after starting the installation of the final version, the beta 2 version
is unable to start anymore but it is stíll not deinstalled. Every time I
restart Windows (XP Pro), it says that Windows Defender allication failed to
initialize.

How can I get out of this trap? Is there any chance to get access to the
original installation MSI package?

I am not exactly sure, which version I was using before as I can't start it
anymore but in the registry I found a version saying 101041b (Hex) / 16843803
(Dec) and a PackageCode 61A956925C4C797488DD52CE7547C7E1.

tpmjg, I can help you fix this, but let me ask a non-sequiter first: Do you
use Microsoft Office on this machine?

Hi tpmjg,

Great, you have under control the problem.

I was trying to avoid to have to use the clean up utility for the side
effects (Sometimes show)

Any way, thanks for updating the post.

Take care.

Hi Engel,

The update didn't work for me : trying this, I just get an error message
"there was an error craeting a temporary file that is needed to complete the
installaition".

My problem with the message "Windows defender : application failed to
initialize 0x800106ba" when starting is still there...

Thank you for your advice

Guillaume, from France
