I'm experiencing the same error with a slightly different error message -
"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x8024400a." - even
after uninstalling, restarting my PC and re-installing the software.

Any error whish starts with 0x8024.... is usually a problem at the Windows
update layer. Can you please chack the windowsupdate.log file in your
%windir% directory and see if it has more information?

"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update 0x8024002b" is what I get
too.

Tried the "msiexec /x AS_Sigs.msi" and yes to uninstall mentioned elsewhere
and still the same.

I'm on a 2k machine with the gdiplus.dll manually placed in my system32
directory. I'm running ISA firewall client behind ISA2000. Also have SUS on
the server - could it be the problem as only WSUS and windows update has the
defs?

windowsupdate.log shows:

I can manually connect to Windows Update and get the defintions without issue.
AntiSpyware beta1 never had a problem updating on this machine.

I have managed to fix the problem on my PC by running through windows update
and selecting an express installation. However, it would seem that while
doing a manual update fixes the problem, automatic updates does not.
