Unable to Defragment C/:

When I run Analyse the program "leaps" to 10% analysed then
either reports it has lost communication witht he disk
defragmenter executable or it reports that an ini file is
corrupt.

If I run disk defragmenter it sticks on 1%

There is 36% available space on the drive and I have closed
all other programs

Any help would be appreciated
