Unable to complete the update. Error 0x80240022

Hi.
I have the Windows Xp Home on my Toshiba Laptop (German language).
I installed the Windows Defender beta 2 yesterday. I´ve never used this
software before.

So, as I try to update it, I get the following error message:
"Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80240022. Im Laufwerk
befindet sich eine falsche Diskette. Legen Sie %2 (Datenträgernummer: %3) in
Laufwerk %1 ein."

The message is exactly that: half in german and half in english.

I´d appreciate any help.

Same error number, and same message about diskettes? I don't have further
info on this one and haven't seen it first hand. You might, I suppose, have
multiple problems--the fix in KB 915105 might also be relevant:

I was having the same problem. I tried your exact instructions and it still
will not update. Any advice? Thanks!

Can you try this?

1) Uninstall WD thru Add and Remove Programs

2) Launch cmd prompt

3) MsiExec.exe /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}

4) Delete all contents of Directory of C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Definition Updates

5) Reinstall WD
Let me know if that works for you.

I'm having the same issue on a standalone XP SP2 PC w/automatic updates on.
I get the yellow shield in my system tray, click and install 1.13.1281.1 def
update. It reports that it installed correctly but the yellow shield doesn't
go away and Defender says it isn't updated.

Any ideas ???

Thanks for all the replies.
Unfortunately nothing that was suggested here worked for me.

I updated the Windows Defender by "Windows Update".
It shows there one atualization option for it.
Worked perfectly.
