My winxp pro was affected by the Brontok.a backdoor worm. Although I have not
been able to use antivirus programs to deal with it, I did manage to stop the
virus, undo most of the registry changes it had made, (to the best of my
knowledge). However, inorder to backup some of the mydocuments folders, I
used a previous installation of win2k and used cmd line 'cacls' to gain
access. It worked in some cases, but I am unable to access some of the
folders in my documents. I then installed a second copy of WinXP Pro, but I
am still unable to access the folders. I have tried the following link
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421, but it does not work as none of the
users from the new installation are available. Pls help.

if you cannot do anything else an alternative is to use a live linux cd like
knoppix that will let you get into your files and move them elseware

Thank you for the tip, John, i will try it if all else fails. Hope some can
help me.
