Unable to browse network/win 98/

C

Craig Glasser

I've just installed Win 2K pro. on a pc which had had
Win '98. I installed on a new drive, so this is not an
upgrade. I can see the Win 98 machine fine from the Win
2K pc, but when I first start up on the '98 pc and go
to 'network neighborhood and double click 'entire
network', I get the error:

Unable to browse network.

If I wait awhile and then do a Find Computer, I'll see the
Win 2K pc in the find computer window and the Win 98 pc
will appear under network neighborhood, but the Win 2K pc
never shows under network neighborhood.

Both pc are part of the same workgroup and I've set up the
Win 98 user under Win 2K security.

Any clues?
Thanks

Have you loaded the "File And Printer Sharing" component for the
networkconnection on the w2k computer? Have you shared any resources?

What if you type \\w2kcomputername\sharename in explorer (or using dir in a
command prompt) on the w98 computer . does it give you any results?
