what is the correct terminology then? i got that terminology from an HP
employee. by the way, i'm an advanced user. i guess i don't know all of the
proper terminologies, but i'm ok with that. at times its easy to miss the
easy fixes for PC problems. the PC that i was asking help for is like 7
years old and i have already brought it back to life twice. i think its time
to upgrade.

I know people who say "cpu" when they mean "computer," download" when they
mean "install," and in the latest perverse trend in the language, "reboot my
computer" when they mean "reinstall Windows."

You can find misuse of language everywhere. It's not limited to technical
terminology, but it seems to be especially common. Those who misuse words
are likely to be frequently misunderstood (*especially* when they use
technical terms), so I caution you to choose carefully whose usage you
emulate.

i have never heard these before.

"cpu" when they mean "computer," download" when they mean "install," and
"reboot my computer" when they mean "reinstall Windows." i have heard a lot
of others. some people i know mix some terms but i always correct them. a
lot of the people i know r not that good with PCs.

I repaired a machine for a bowling teammates girlfriend, she drove me nuts from the
get-go. The first mis-identification was calling the tower the hard drive, I
informed her that it was the tower and the HD's along with mobo, cd, fd ps, yada yada
were inside. I gave up after about the 5th/6th time and it became the HD for the
time shes was present.

i heard sader ones, but at least they let me correct them and acually
listened. for some reason at my school some of my friends call me microsoft.
they call me microsoft because i am very good with computers and plus i am
into the latest technology. but yet at times i perfer to use older
notebooks, mostely because they have less isuues for some reason. i have a
new up to date one as well. newer laptops seems to die faster then older
ones. my zd8000 which is a year and a half years old had like 7 or 8
hardware problems in less then a year and had to have that many parts
replaced including the keyboard, battery, dvd drive, touch pad, and other
things, while my 7 year old PC, my evo n600c notebook only had to have 2
parts replaced. the w200 wireless lan module and the dvd drive. the
motherboard on the evo failed at one point but yet i was able to get it
running again. i have an old desktop but i don't use it anymore. i ended up
having to reinstall windows on it like 14 times. the floppy drive died, and
at times the cd-rw drives has issues. its a 1.4GHz pc and it seems to been
running at half the speed. computers are weird at times.
