I have windows xp prof and i am unable to boot from the cd, i wait for it to
say press any key, then press a key but nothing happens whatsoever, and i
dont know how to get into BIOS to change the setting, it seems that whatever
key i press does not work even tho my keyboard is functioning fine, any help
would be much apprecitated, Thanks Jayne

If you see Press Any Key--you are booting to the cd. Then the problem is your
keyboard is not being recognized. If it's a usb keyboard you can try a PS2
keyboard or check with your computer manufacturer for help. Also find out how
to enter the bios(setup) while you are there. You can change the bios to
include Legacy USB support for your usb keyboard. Sometimes that solves it.

Make sure it's booting from the cd-rom and NOT the floopy.
Go into the BIOS and make the cd-rom the first choice on boot.

How to get into your BIOS depends, not on Windows, but on what
motherboard/BIOS you have. As a matter of fact, you have to
access the BIOS before Windows even starts to boot. One common
way is to press the Del key when you first power on, but that's
not necessarily right for your computer. Watch the screen
carefully when you first boot; there's often a message there
telling you what to do. If not, check your system documentation
or check with your vendor.

Also look here:

Or just try the Del key. There's a good chance that's correct for
you.

What brand is your PC? When you restart your PC you might have to
press the DEL key, or F12, F11, F10, and so on to enter the bios.
So when you restart you'll see some numbers or something in
in the top left or right corner of the screen that's when you have
to
press the button (which ever the right one is)

Once you're in the BIOS look for "Advanced BIOS features" or
something similar to that. You'll see -

First boot device - CD-ROM
Second boot device floppy
Third boot device ?

Make sure the first boot device READS - CD-ROM
If not set it so it does. Then you'll be able to boot
to the disc (CD-ROM)

to access bios, depending on your system it could be any one of (as examples
only)

TAB
ESC
DEL
F<number> key eg F8 or F10 etc

I entered the BIOS and the first boot is cdrom, but when i reboot i still
cannot boot from cd and i am have pressed many keys, my keyboard is working
because i entered the BIOS ok, but pressing any key to boot from cd does not
work.

Your BIOS boot sequence should be 1=floppy 2=cdrom 3=harddisk/
Does your PC boot from a DOS boot disk?
Does your XP install disk boot with another machine?
Is your XP disk a full version of XP or a restore disk?
Eliminate the obvious first.

Yes the disk does boot up on another machine, i have booted up on this disk
before i just cant do it this time.

Are you using a USB keyboard? And, if so, have you enabled your BIOS'
equivalent of "Legacy USB Support?" This may be necessary, as USB
drivers are not normally loaded until after the system has booted into
Windows. Most modern motherboards allow one to use a USB keyboard
pre-Windows, but the option is not always enabled by default.

You speak very matter-of-factly about something that is not correct.
The boot sequence does NOT have to be as you indicated; in fact in
general my BIOS is set 1: HDD, 2: CDROM, 3: Floppy. If I plan on
booting to CD, then I reverse 1 and 2. Floppy is almost always #3 on
my list.

when it says press any key to boot from cd i do an nothin happens i went in
my bios an got it on boot cd
