UMAX SCSI Scanner install problems

Having some problems installing a UMAX Powerlook 2 scanner on my computer,
which is running Windeows 2000.
I have already obtained the Vuescan software for Win2k from UMAX, and it
installs fine, the scanner works and appears in the device manager as having
no conflicts or problems.

The major problem arises when the computer is booted up, Windows Hardware
assistant keeps "finding" the scanner and trying to install it again (even
though it is already installed). Disabling or uninstalling these references
works, but only until the next boot up, when it repeats the process.

I have tried the fix suggested by UMAX, which is to delete the file
unwinmil.inf and the oem*.inf and direct the installer to a file called
uwin2000.inf (which I have copied to a floppy) using the update driver
proceedure.

I cannot find the unwinmil.inf file as it happens and attempts to direct the
installer to the uwin2000.inf file have no effect. The computer still
reports the device as having the most appropriate driver installed.

Driving me nuts...can anybody advise please?

Well, if it's SCSI (and I don't know if this will solve your other
probs), it isn't going to work without ASPI installed.
W2K and XP don't have it in OS like Win9x did.

Thanks,
Forgot to mention I had the latest Aspi drivers (4.7) installed from
Adaptec.
The scanner works with no problems, just the continous hardware wizard
popping up
and leaving multiple instances of the same device showing in device manager
is
really irritating.
