UBUNTU OR WHAT EVER

i had to ask this.has any one..changed a defective vista.os computer..over to
ubuntu or some other os..did it work and what happened..i keep thinking every
day..how sweet it would be.to get away from..the thieves of microsoft..i can
not afford a apple..right now..

i installed unbuntu.on one of my computers.i was too dumb..to figure out how
to work it..it just looked like things were missing and i could not see how
to install my out side software..we need to get out..from under the thieves..

just look at these post here.day in and day out..and the man just deserted
the sinking ship..talk about titananics...

You are not ready for any version of Linux, and Mac OSX has as many problems
as vista. I have them all.

Get Ubuntu 8.04 and then make it a dual boot system with Vista.

That way you get the best of both worlds

Contact Alias. he maintains that even an idiot can install and run Ubuntu.
It looks like he was wrong in those assumptions..

It 'works' pretty much like MS - if you want it to. There is a 'start'
menu. Can't imagine what 'things were missing' - it comes with a LOT of
software and a simple couple of clicks to start 'synaptic' package manager
will install many more.

What outside software did you need to install? Linux is not MS and it does
not natively run MS software - but there are Linux equivalents for most of
what you would ever want to do. Some MS software can be run under WINE,
but it's often not necessary - simply install the Linux equivalent e.g. -
OpenOffice.org for MS office; GIMP for photoshop; several e-mail
utilities; . . .

It is quite possible and fairly easy to install Linux as a dual boot, or
install in a virtual machine on your MS installation.

You can't afford an Apple, and you call Microsoft thieves. You best get a "what ever" in
that case.
