Ubuntu 8.04 What A Piece Of Junk

I thought I would download the new Ubuntu 8.04 and give it a try because all
the Ubuntu nut jobs were saying how cool Ubuntu is with their new release.

I installed Ubuntu on my machine. I tried Open Office Spreadsheet. I
thought I would try to enter a Macro then run it. I then had to install
Java to be able to run a macro. If I didn't know that I needed to use
Synaptic to figure out how to get the Java update, I would be screwed along
with many others who try this crap. Just FYI

OK, so Java installs. BFD. It works but it isn't that good.

Now, lets play some music. I navigated to bobrivers.com to play a tune. I
was prompted to install some more updates. Fine. Did that. The install
went OK. Then I had to install a couple more updates. That went fine. Now
I clicked on the song to play and the page just froze.

No wonder why Ubuntu is such a piece of crap. Can't play a simple tune from
a web page. Now in Vista, I could navigate right to the page, play the song
and I would be as happy as a clam in a whorehouse.

Ubuntu sucks.

Just FYI

No complaints about any hardware setup problems. Cool!

On the Applications menu did you see a thingy called "Add/Remove..."?

Had you clicked on that, then typed, "java" at the search box and hit
enter, you would have found "Sun Java 6 Runtime" at the top of the list.

But how do you install Java on Windows? You go to their website and
download it. You could have done that too, though that method is harder
than using "Add/Remove..." or Synaptic.

You couldn't elaborate on that a little more? Compare and contrast the
difference in functionality between java on Windows v. Linux.

Can you post an URL to the exact song, Butt Monkey? Everything there I
tried worked fine for me, but I'm not trying to imply that you didn't have
a problem.

Yeah, I'm sure a page freezing up never happened to you while using
Windows! /sarcasm

You shoulda said you were trying out Ubuntu, I would have been glad to
help you out.

This is one of the things that is a problem with Open Source. You have to
know what to run to find the updates. I wouldn't have known about Synaptic
either. Now I am aware but the user who tries Ubuntu for the first time
will be lost.

So you are trying to help out this idiot and you call him a Butt Monkey?
Pretty funny.

I have this old computer at home and maybe I'll install Ubuntu 8.04 on it
and see what all the fuss is about.

Yea, helping out the Butt Monkey. I am sure that would get you excited!

After you install Ubuntu, open Firefox where you will find all sorts of
help on the page that opens. Too difficult for you?

Any person that says Vista has never frozen on them speaks crap. I do not
have a spare drive for Ubuntu, but I would be tempted to try it if I did.

What did you do with Windows before you knew about Windows Update?

And the Ubuntu user is informed about updates through the notification
area automatically, and can do the update from the pop-up notification.

What Butt Monkey was trying to do was add a third-party app, Sun's Java.
And as I mentioned it is much easier to do thru "Add/Remove..." which is
prominently displayed on the main menu.

I think even you could figure it out all on your own. I know I did.
So you are trying to help out this idiot and you call him a Butt Monkey?

I kinda like Butt Monkey, he just takes his humor beyond funny sometimes,
so why not try to help him out.

Anyone trying something different is gonna need help from time to time.
I know I am doing my best to wear out Google trying to further my
knowledge about Linux.

Luckily for me, the Internet is a much better place to further my
knowledge, than back in 1995, when I was first trying to figure how to
use Windows.
Yea, helping out the Butt Monkey. I am sure that would get you excited!

Whatever, Bill.

"Anal-lized." How witty!

/sarcasm

Wouldn't "anal-ized" have worked for your intended purposed, and have
been more efficient to boot?

Or is that just you typing your speech impediments out again, like when
you type "prolly" instead of "probably?"

"...LOL!" Just FYI!

Maybe the wine coolers but not the Vodka! Oh, you just might live in a
