UAC prevents Media Player starting

G

Guest

Media player will not start unless I turn off UAC, which I don't want to do.
With UAC on, I must right click the quick launch icon for media player and
choose "run as administrator" or MP won't start. I must also run IE by right
click & "run as admin" or I lose some functions. This is a new problem and
only occurs on the administrator side of the computer. My wife's "user"
account works find. If I turn off UAC everything works fine. I have been
searching this problem for a short time now, & I have found a number of
people with this same problem. This is a new install of Home Premium. Thanks
in advance for any help.

WMP should be UAC compliant, so this initially smells strongly like a third
party addition. Did you by chance install any new codecs or filters
recently? What are the results of WMP's Help:About:Technical Support
Information menu tool?

No new codecs or filters I'm aware of. Office 2007, Halo 2.

Zachd,
I had installed a webcam that did't work correctly, then I uninstalled it.
Apparently it left something. I just did a system restore from a restore
point I manually made prior to the cam installation. Everything seems fine
again. What a relief. My next step would have been to turn off UAC as it was
a real pain having to start things by right click and run as admin. I was
beginning to think I had made a mistake by getting Vista instead of XP on the
new PC, but I feel better now. Thanks.
