UAC prevents me from playing movies

The majority of .avi files I have will not play on Windows media player in Vista with User
Account Control turned on. When I try to play such a file I am told.

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or
might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"

if I turn off UAC the file will play just fine. I installed the latest codecs as
administrator. Why is Vista preventing me from playing my media?

Thanks

That sounds like a third party codec required by that video file is poorly
written and requiring privileges it should not need. What codecs do those
AVI files use?

What version of those codecs do you have installed? WMP's
Help:About:Technical Support Information menu tool may help you to figure
that out if you don't know how.
