Media Player and Vista

Mike

I have an issue with media player on vista, when I try to play a .avi file
or .mpeg it tells me I am missing a codec. I loaded the k-lite codec and
nothing happen. I then loaded the VistaCodec 4.22, .mpeg is now working but
..avi is not. Is there a way to deinstall media player from vista, so I can
reinstall media player.

Thanks - Mike

Mike,

You do not need to reinstall the MP11.
The AVI format may contain AV encoded with a number of different
codecs. For example an AVI may contain video that has been encoded
using a DIVX encoder etc.
MP11 can play a variety of files and encoding formats (within those
files) by default (including the early Microsoft standards who had an
AVI extension) but you may still have to get the correct codec for
certain encoding types.
So there is probably nothing wrong with your MP11 and you just need to
get the right codec for the format used within the AVI file.
The file extension does not necessarily tell you the actual content of
the file.
