I am running Vista Enterprise RTM and the media 11 that gets installed with
vista does not like avi or mpeg files. Is there a way to deinstall media
player and reinstall it.

Mike:
You have to add the codec package to play .AVI files. ffdshow has a
package that plays .AVI files on WMP11.

That's odd. AVI is the old Microsoft Video for Windows format.....

The AVI format may contain files encoded using a variety of codecs.
So while the extension is AVI the player may not have the right codec
to play the file.

I guess I've only come across that with DivX
