typing letters lag behind when composing messages

Has anyone had this experience when they type a message into outlook 2003
message area the characters lag behind 5-8 seconds.
 
I would suggest that you have a look at the post that is just a few away from
yours in the outlook list, that started on the same day as yours...

The news is not good...
