Type text into form fields without it making other text move?

Rank amateur here...in an old version of Word I could type out a blank
version of a report, leaving text fields that I could tab to to add a
student's name, date of birth, other info. I could save it as a template. I
don't seem to be able to do that...I've typed out what I want and inserted
form fields, but I can't type in them without moving all other text as I do,
even if I lock the form. (I don't know if I'm supposed to do that or not.)
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to save it in a different way? Any help
appreciated!

This newsgroup is for questions about forms in Access, the database product
that's part of Office Professional.

You'd be best off reposting your question to a newsgroup that's related to
Word, as forms in Access are nothing like forms in Word.

I'd suggest that when you repost, you mention what version of Word you had
before, and what version of Word you're looking at now. (It might also help
mentioning your operating system)
