TYPE 17 PARTITION- how to fix???

Hello,

I had Windows XP Home on my NTFS Partition, and something
went wrong in Windows XP, and it changed the NTFS
partition to this "type 17" partition. I know that type
17 is hidden NTFS in hex, and 07 is normal NTFS, but I
have no clue how to change it back into the regular NTFS,
and become bootable. If there's anyone that can help me,
that would be great.

PS: I dont want to restore it, all I want to do is grab
and back-up my docs, then I'll restore.

If you have PartitionMagic, look on the PM CD for ptedit.exe. If not,
go to ftp.powerquest.com/pub/utilities and download ptedit.zip. Get
yourself a Win98 or DOS boot floppy (from www.bootdisk.com, if you need
to), boot from the floppy, run ptedit.exe, and change the "17" to "07".

Thanks for the help, but I already tryed ptedit.exe, but
I will try combining it into a boot disk, and read the
info on it, just to double check, but if you got any
other info, anything would be great! Thanks!!!

I just tryed to change it to everything. Nothing happened
when I tryed to boot into it, it only said the NTLDR.DLL
was missing, and press any key to reboot, and it goes
back to the MagicBoot Screen. I don't know what to do. I
really just want to get my documents out of there, but I
have no clue how. If anyone can help, one last time, that
would be great! If not, I understand, its a risky issue.

What's MagicBoot?? Are you saying you've got a third-party boot manager
installed?!! You didn't say anything about that earlier. Ptedit writes
directly to the disk sector, so can't not work, but ptedit will be
futile if a boot manager is changing back anything ptedit fixes. IOW,
it's the boot manager that is setting your partition to "hidden", so
that's where you've got to make the fix. Either that, or disable/remove
the boot manager so ptedit's fixes stay put.
