Two Problems

When starting up and shutting down Excel 2007 I get the error message,
"Compile error in hidden module: DistMon. It seems to work ok in spite of
this.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I went to this site and moved the adobe files to the desktop but it made no
difference. The instructions say to go to Symantec support, but does not say
what to do there.

If you're still getting the error message that means the files are still
loading. So like the article says, go to all you XLSTART folders (there are
at least 2) and delete/remove the PDF XLAs. You might also confirm that they
are not selected under Excel Options, Add-ins.

Hi Jim,

I appreciate your help.

The XLSTART folders were empty and the files weren't selected under Excell
Options, Add-Ins.

FYI here's what I wound up doing.

I called Adobe and they had a solution in thier database that was not
available to the public.

He had me find and delete all normal.dot files ( there were about 15 of
them, some with ~ mark in front of them). It won't be a big deal to create a
new normal.dot. I have no idea why this would affect excel.

He had me find and delete all of the pdfmaker.dot files and the
pdfmaker.xla, files and that made excel start normally. Afterward we went in
and repaired Adobe Acrobat 8 in the add/remove programs section of control
panel and things seem to be back to normal.

we'll see what happens.

I got the message for some weeks when opening excel2003, and with no bad
effects.
But yesterday, on two computers pressing the go ahead buttom to get rid of
the distmon error box, all hell is let loose. With dozens of xls files all in
one folder [but not in other folders or the root] being opened together at
high speed by excel, and with error messages about them all. ANtivirus
software reports no problems.
What is it?

deleting .xla files in Adobe Acrobat 6, and residual files of acr 6 left
when recently installing Acr 8 have no effect. Have had to download
OpenOffice to use my excel files at all.

Thought of upgrading to Office2007, but not if this trouble will continue.

Is urgent. Wd be grateful for any help

The original thread has aged off for me--so I'm not sure what you're replying
to, but...

It sounds to me like you have either:
Some folder name entered in this box:
Tools|Options|General tab|At startup, open all files in:
If you do, erase that entry (don't delete the files!)

Or you have a bunch of files in your XLStart folder.
Use windows start button|Search to locate that folder and move the files that
don't belong.

These are the files that I keep in my XLStart:
Book.xlt
Sheet.xlt
personal.xla (you may have personal.xls)

And my XLStart (xl2003 and winXP Home) is located:
C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
