two problems

I have two problems I would like some advice on:
1. Every time I try to use my Search function, I get a pop up of Windows
Installer wanting the CD for Windows Office 2K Pro. I can't figure out why,
and I have to hit Cancel several times to make it stop. What is the problem?
and how do I fix it? It just started doing this about 10 days ago, the same
time as problem 2 popped up.

2. Recently, someone else used my computer for web surfing and managed to
get it infected with Spylocked 4.0. I got some help on another forum, and
the fix worked. However, in the instructions for the fix it says to restart
the computer in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during restart, before the Windows
logo appears. I could not get it to work that way, no matter what I did. My
computer just went right on with its normal start up routine, as if I wasn't
hitting F8 at all, or doing anything else for that matter. Did I miss
something, do something wrong, or has this infernal machine lost its little
electronic mind? Or maybe I've lost mine....
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help or advice. Truthfully, it would help
to know I am not the only one with either problem, I wouldn't feel like such
a bonehead.

In re your number 2: Start > Run > MSCONFIG. On the BOOT.INI tab, check
/SAFEBOOT. Restart. Remember to undo this in Safe Mode or you'll end up
right back there when you restart.

In re #1: Have you tried going ahead and following the prompt's
suggestion(s)? Or, perhaps, a Repair installation of Office?

For #2, sometimes it's a matter of timing. Repeatedly tap the F8 key right
after it boots and the BIOS splash screen starts to disappear.

What kind of keyboard? USB or PS2? Can you enter the BIOS itself by
pressing what ever key is needed for that?
