Two monitors

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop and want to use another monitor at the
same time. The laptop has an output for another monitor, but dosen't work.
Can someone tell me how to set it up?

Most laptops have a "secret key combination" like my Sony Viao. On
mine, it's the "Fn" key + the F7 and F8 keys that cycle through laptop
screen, external screen & both screens.

Your manual will probably tell you which keys to use on the Dell.
