Lately I've notice a real slowdown in the performance and after scanning for
viruses and spyware which produced 0 I'm at a lost for an answer. When I
checked the performance monitor it registers at about 3% during the good
performance and about 30-40% when it's running slow. Is there a utility that
can pinpoint what is happening? Looking at processes it usually shows System
Idle Process at 90% and the rest is constantly changing between my e-mail
program (groupwise andvirus scanner mostly) the others are a variety of other
processes.
The other issue I have is in my C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files I'm missing the folder Content.IE5. What is
this for and should I have a folder with this name.

Last question is can I delete the folders under C:\Windows\$........$ ? I have
heaps of them.

Thanks

Is your RAM enuf to support the programs ur running? For the slowdown,
you cud try some basic stuff such as a disk clean up, then chkdsk and
defragment. Its possible that therez lots of unwanted stuff in the
systm. or ur drive maybe cluttered. Check out these links and doing
these maintenance tasks regularly can keep the system runnng well.

The Content.IE5 is where IE5 stores your temporary internet files.
Check out this link and see if you can view it ( hidden folder).

to ur last question, if u need to knw wht u can delete
http://www.clickopedia.com/safelydelete.php

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info, however there is no mention to the folders
located under C:\Windows.
The contents are usually a folder named spuninst or/and a file "http
system file" with the following in one of the text files:
COPY "C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB886185$\ipnat.sys"
"c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ipnat.sys"
COPY "C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB886185$\ipnat.sys"
"c:\windows\system32\drivers\ipnat.sys"

These are examples of the names, mostly they either start with (after
the $) MS or Nt....$.
The folders are usually named:
C:\WINDOWS\$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803v2$
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB887742$

I have as few as 40 on one system and also a 100 on another system.

Thanks
