Two fine horizontal lines appear on my screen

I'm not sure what causes this problem but my screen has two very fine (barely
visible) lines which run horizontally across the screen. There is one about
three inches from the top of the screen and another the same distance from
the bottom.

I'm not massively computer literate so I won't be surprised if it's
something fairly simple I need to do to get rid of them.

Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a Trinitron CRT monitor and the two lines you are
seeing are fine wires that stabilize the aperture grill. They are normal.

Please see the section titled "Horizontal "Trinitron Lines" @

Some "types" of monitors have one or two lines depending of the size of
the screen. In many cases you can't seem them or they are very faint.
Change the screen resolution or the background color - if you use a Dark
Color as the background it's not as noticeable.

What brand/model monitor do you have?

I believe Mitsubishi licensed the technology from Sony for use in its
DiamondTron CRT monitors. Other makers also licensed Sony's technology but
I'm too old to remember which. The tip-off was the "-tron" in the monitor's
name.

It's a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB 19" CRT monitor

Pete:
As others have informed you, it's surely the grid wires of the Trinitron
screen. It's interesting that the vast majority of users (based upon our
experience) of this Sony-developed screen don't even notice these thin wires
running across the screen (or if they do, it doesn't bother them) but for
some users it's an intolerable situation and in a number of instances we had
to replace newly-purchased Sony monitors with shadow-mask monitors.
