A mysterious 1/4 inch high white line appears all the way across my blue
windows screen on my monitor.
I do not know what caused the white line to show up.

Please help me to get rid of that 1/4 inch high white line.
How do I get rid of the while line?

Your wisdom and expertise will be appreciated.

We can't see your screen. Is it at the top of the screen, like another
toolbar, or in the middle somewhere?

Joe, thank you, for responding.

The 1/4 inch high white space shows up horizontally from left to right
across the middle of my blue windows screen.

I cannot move the white space (line) in any direction.

I am grateful for your willingness to help me.
Thank You,

The monitor probably went bad. However before you do anything else you
should try the monitor on another system and/or try a new monitor on your
system.
If you display something such as a letter, is the data missing in the white
area or does it appear to have 'stretched' the image
with no data lost?

Do you have any magnetic sources near your monitor? Large speakers,
multiple refrigerator magnets might mess up your screen. Does your
monitor have an auto-degauss button on it? Sometimes manufacturers put
the image of a little horseshoe magnet on the button. Some screens,
especially the older CRT monitors get magnetic interference. You might
also see things clear up simply by moving the magnetic source away from
the monitor.

Also, does this happen to the screen when you start your compute? If
so, it's just Windows start up giving you a little progress bar. It
illustrates Windows Start-up progress.

He stated a 1/4 inch high white line 'all the way across the screen'.
Speakers, magnets and other magnetic sources including degaussing CANNOT
cause that.

The Mysterious 1/4 inch high horizontal white line across the middle of my
blue windows screen monitor appears only on the desktop view.

It is not present when I first start up my computer and the blue windows
screen appears -- it appears automatically when the desktop loads onto the
screen.

It is not present when I am working on a MS Word document.
The text in the document appears to be perfect -- with no defects.

It is not present when I am using Outlook Express for E-mail.

It is not present on these dialogue windows of MS Discussion Groups.

I have no magnets near my computer.

I hope this is helpful.

I appreciate your time and expertise to help solve this problem.

Thank You,

The 1/4 inch high white line is completely blank -- nothing inside the white
area.
This white line does not move -- and I cannot move it in any direction.

First thing to try is to change the theme of your desk top. Control
panel---display---theme. You may have a bad file.

Hi unknown,

Changing the theme of my display doesn't eliminate my mysterious 1mm of my
monitor screen.

Please help me to get rid of it
