Hi..

Running Office 2007

Today I'm using MS Synctoy to transfer my .PST-file between my computer and
my laptop.
But much is missing...

What software is the best to do this job in order to maintain the same
environment on both computers?

Rules are in the pst. Accounts are in the registry.

Rules tend to get an additional condition like "only on this computer".
I just don't have the guts to click my way through two hundreds rules at
least twice a week!

I know that the accounts are in the registry, and that I can save them and
then import them.
But if I add another account, not that that happens often, I can forget to
import it. This is a problem at least last year when I had to reinstall
Windows twice.
And then there is the problem with different settings in listings and views
and skin and....... so on....

Outlook should save ALL user set settings and everything user related in one
place. That will make Outlook look and behave the same way across all of
your computers. The number of people having one desktop and one laptop is
growing. The desktop to work with, and the laptop to stay connected.

Besides, the indexing has to be redone every time teh PST-file is copied to
the other computer.
That takes away the possibility to search in contacts and email and so
forth.

And every time I start up Outlook after copying the PST-file, the Outlook
Connector asks for username and passwords again. (sigh)

And there is more...
But my mind is blurred at two a.m.

Have a nice day! :)

The solution is to use IMAP accounts if you need to share between two
computers... and if you are using the Outlook Connector you don't need to
move its PST file.

Since this is a private e-mail setup, I don't need the benefits of IMAP.
Therefore it's probably best to run Outlook on one computer and one computer
only!

The solution is to use IMAP accounts if you need to share between two
computers... and if you are using the Outlook Connector you don't need to
move its PST file.

I've used IMAP in the past when I had two systems, when I worked for a
company that had IMAP support. But my ISP does not support IMAP for
personal email, so I'm stuck shuttling my PST file between desktop and
laptop.

Also, whenever I add a new rule, I have to do some extra clicking to
avoid that silly "Only on this computer" option. Per my question
about editing rules outside of the Rules Wizard, dealing with this
silly "only on this computer" option is one motivation for more
convenient and powerful rules editing.
