Forgive my ignorance please, Could someone tell me what a "Tweak" is?, I do
realise that this is probably a very basic question but I am a techno thicky.
Thanks in advance

Hi,

A "tweak" is a change made to the system in order to optimize/modify a
process, or customize the system to a personal preference. These are
generally things that are not within the normal design limits of the program
or hardware, but can easily be changed. An example of a tweak would be to
modify the virtual memory settings to better fit your usage patterns, or to
add a custom "shell" to alter the standard desktop environment. It is
certainly not limited in scope, and the term is generally applied when the
system is altered in some fashion to fit a personal preference.

When a pretty girl walks by some guy might reach out and give an admirable
part of her body a little tweak. Then the girl might shriek and in return
tweak his nose or the parts of body that make him so bold.

Tweaking is the process of fine tuning and improving your system to
maximize performance.

Actually it the process of *attempting* to fine tune and
improve etc. I've seen some tweaks that turned computers
into passable boat anchors. ;-)

There are some Tweaks that have evolved through the 9X/ME code
base that don't really apply to the NT/2000/XP code. Cosmetic type
of tweaks aren't dangerous, but many others can have unanticipated
results. Always best to take a System Image before tweaking in the
Memory Management or other core areas of XP. Hardware is so fast
today compared with just a few years ago that many tweaks don't
provide significant improvements. Better to do routine maintenance
operations like Chkdsk & Defrag. But "Tweaking", if done manually
via the Registry is a good way to learn some of internal workings of XP.
It's one of those read & research first and then proceed carefully.

Partially true.Depends what you are tweaking as well as -whether it's
been done by an expert or a newbie.
Making incorrect changes in the registry can break your system.
Therefore, it's highly advisable to backup the registry before
editing/deleting any key.
R.McCarty has already replied a great reply regarding this.Thanks.

Thanks guys, Great advice. I believe not enough knowledge is a dangerous
thing..so I shall remain ignorant...aparantly it's bliss.
Thanks again
