Twain Source Quit?

I'm in the middle of a scanning project. Suddenly my scanner gives me
error messages; says it can't find Twain source; can't initialize. I
tried other applications, too; Photoshop, and the Scanner app that
comes with MS Office. I've checked the cables and air-cleaned the USB
connections. I've shutdown and restarted.

What should I do next?
What would make my scanner suddenly quit working in the middle of a
job?

Two options. The first is that if all else fails, perform a cold restart
of the computer. If the scanner still fails afterwards, then check it by
testing it in another computer. Scanners do break, especially those with
ADF as well as doing heavy-duty jobs.
