Hello, my new computer was originally ready really quickly when you turned it
on, but now it takes ages to be ready - the desktop wallpaper comes up but
the icons dont appear for ages. my memory is still fairly empty so i was
wondering why this is happening? there are no errors on the drive. thanks

Hi,

It's because of the number of background processes you now have loading
after installing various bits of software. Run msconfig (click start/run and
type it in) and look at the startup tab. Disable (uncheck) those that are
not essential to system operation, leaving only AV software and driver file
support enabled. This does not disable the programs, you can still use them,
it just keeps them from loading at boot and staying resident in memory.

You've told many background apps to load/launch when windows loads up.
Disable them to speed up your start up time.
