Not an Outlook question. You must modify the handling of the "URL Mailto
Protocol" file type in WIndows.

Is there no other way to disable outlook from automaically creating the
mailto links in a message that it thinks is an emial message? I do not want
disable the mailto links all together, just for messages where the mailto
link was not explicitly defined in the creation of the message.
Example, I have created a message in text only format, outlook will
automatically create the mailto: link, I right click and remove the link,
send the message, and the receipient will have the mailto: link created
again. I want to stop this behaviour with in outlook.
There has to be a registry entry that controls this functionality.

Not that I'm aware. Even in Plain Text messages, Outlook will scan the body
and make active anything it perceives to be a URL. Even though there's no
actual link in the message itself, Outlook will still treat it as there
there were.

Bummer, you would think that they would give you the option to turn this
off. If sending a password or guid in a mail message, and the text contains
an "@" and "." it creates the link, which is darn annoying.

Thanks for your input Brian. Much appreciated.

I have found a way to turn off the Mail To: links in Outlook 2007.
Go into the Spelling tab under Tools|Options. Select Editor Options.
Proofing:AutoCorrect Option. There are Two Tabs to look at.
First is the "AutoFormat" Tab and the "AutoFormat As You Type" tab. Deselct
the options for "Internet and Network Path and hyperlinks"

Not to figure out a way to delpoy these options via Group Policy......

Good for you. I haven't had a chance to delve into OL 2007 as much as I'd
like.
