Attached field missing until form resized

B

I'm experiencing a strange issue with Outlook 2007.

If the main Outlook shell is not copen, and a new mail message is created
for example by clicking on a mailto: hyperlink in an Excel sheet, when a file
is attached to the new message, the "Attached" field does not show until and
unless the form is resized/restored. The file has been attached to the
message, it just isn't visible.

This occurs whether the form begins life maximised or restored, and after
the resize, the field remains visible whatever subsequent resizing takes
place.

If Outlook itself is open, and the message is started from an external
mailto: hyperlink, then either the form behaves normally, or the "Attach
File" item on the Ribbon is disabled.

If you create the message manually from inside Outlook then the field
displays correctly first time.

What's going on here?

I have been able to successfully reproduce this with multiple users on
multiple machines, all of which have the latest updates and service pack (2).

Thanks

Chris

Two things I need to point out to assist any reply:

1. Format is HTML - this is not the Rich Text issue with the attachment
appearing inside the message.

2. This is the default, installed New Message form, not a custom form having
a control resize issue.

Hi Diane

Thanks for your response.

The behaviour is new after a bunch of Office 2007 security updates (it may
have been there for some time but I suspect it is something to do with the
last lot of security updates published on 09/06/2009 - this includes
KB969559).

This is just a mailto: which inserts the address, so, enter the address into
an excel sheet, right click > Hyperlink > Choose "E-mail address" and enter
the address into the E-mail address: field.

OK

Click on the link, and try and attach a file.

Not sure about what you mean by a File > Send link causing this - it seems
purely to do with the way the form is created when you use a mailto: to start
the mail editor.

Any assistance gratefully received - I know how to work round it but its
driving the users crazy!

It sounds like a draw issue. Is this behavior new? Does the hyperlink in
Excel also attach the file or do you need to find and select something? Does
it happen every time you use a File, Send link?

Ok. I was able to repro it with a mailto in onenote. I don't know which
update did it. Do you know how long ago it started?

One possible candidate is KB 969907 -
http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2009/20090721.htm If it is this one,
please let me know.

'fraid not...it could possibly be KB969907, it was certainly in the batch of

Or not..uninstalled that update, no difference.

I therefore suspect a general Office Security Update, and it's probably one
of the following:

KB969679
KB967642
KB969559
KB969613
