Turning off insertion of TNRoman or Arial (i.e. euro symbol) into other fonts??

Does anyone know how to turn off the feature of inserting a character (for
example, the euro symbol) from Times New Roman or Arial into a font that
doesn't have this feature in Word XP?

I find it rather annoying when using another font and I make a typo, or
simply to check if a font in question has a extended character/symbol, Word
automatically inserting Arial or TNR into another font won't automatically
give me that information.

Thanks,
Netguy

Hi Netguy,

No, I don't know how to stop Word from substituting fonts, unless
Tools/Options/Compatibility will let you do that (but Font Substitution
usually is only available when a substitution has been made for a font not
installed on the machine).

But in order to check what symbols a font contains in its character set, you
can go to Insert/Symbol and type the font name into the combobox. That should
pull up the characters it contains into the grid.
