Turn off zip file content expansion in disk explorer

How does one do that ?

I'd like to see just the files present in the folder without treating the
zip file as a directory. Is there a control to turn off this feature ?

I'm not sure if the expansion is coming from disk explorer or some Winzip
enhancement to disk explorer. Either way, I can't figure out how to turn
it off.

Basically treat zips as files instead of folders.

Well, if WinZip is installed then that is exactly what happens: all xp's
built-in zip handling is turned off and WinZip takes over. What happens
when you double click a zip file? Does it open in WinZip, or does
Explorer just "go down into" the zip "folder"? If the later try
reinstalling WinZip to "freshen up" things.

Regardless, Explorer's Search feature still looks into zip files and
shows matches inside as if they were in a "zip folder", you can't turn
that off.

Yes, you can.

If cabview.dll and zipfldr.dll are unregistered, Search will not scan inside
ZIP files.

explorer.exe is called Windows Explorer.

iexplore.exe is called Internet Explorer.

That's how Microsoft keeps them apart, different names and different file
names.

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS | Locate explorer.exe | Right click it |
Click on Properties | Description says......... Windows Explorer

Windows Explorer

It's not like I'm the only one that uses the term disk explorer (right
or wrong). As Chick would have said - that's pretty ticky-tack. :)

I wanted to make sure nobody thought I meant MSIE.

To be honest, Bill, I have heard it called all kinds of things, but disk
explorer was a first for me.

I always have to ask because when I assume that someone actually meant
Windows Explorer, I find out later that they were referring to some 3rd
party program named the same thing as the name they were using.

What a sentence. ;-)

I have no idea who else uses the term "disk explorer" For Windows Explorer,
but I, for one, have never heard it before. If you want to use nonstandard
names for things, go right ahead, but don't be surprised when others don't
know what you're talking about.
