Zip files slowing down PC - need help

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to WinXP and noticed that it presents Zip files
as folders in Windows Explorer (although with a different icon), with
the ability to open/expand them as if they were run-of-the-mill
folders, which is not a bad idea except that I have a Zip file which
contains almost 15,000 files (code files in multiple versions), and
every time I access the folder in which this file is located, I lose
control of Windows Explorer for a few minutes, during which time I'm
guessing WinXP is scanning the Zip file content to allow for quick
expansion in Windows Explorer.

Looking around WinXP, I'm guessing the Quick Compress right-click menu
item in Windows Explorer is the cause of my problem. Is there any way
of disabling it or configuring it so it doesn't automatically scan Zip
files? I have WinZip so don't need Windows to do this for me.

Of course, I can just move this Zip file elsewhere (which I've done)
and bypass the problem, but I would prefer to tell WinXP to stop
automatically scanning Zip files.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
