Turn off Windows Picture and Fax viewer

All of a sudden, Windows Picture and Fax Viewer has grabbed control of my
machine. WINXP Pro SP1 with all Windows Updates incorporated.

Whenever I click on a JPG or GIF file in any folder on any drive on my
machine, whenever I have MS Photoeditor associated with these files in
Folder Options, the picture and fax viewer opens the picture. If I
associate Adobe Photoshop or MS PhotoDraw, then these programs open the
picture.

How can I get MS Photoeditor to open the pictures? Setting the association
in "preferred programs" has no effect.

thx

right click, on a picture type that is not working correctly and select Open With, then click Chose Program and scroll down the list to find the program of choice, click on it and then before clicking OK, check the USE ALWAYS box.

To disable the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer...
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll

Thanks for the advice. I'd already tried using "help" and got no usable
data back.
