Is there a way to shut down Windows and turn off the
computer with one click of the mouse rather than clicking
START, TURN OFF COMPUTER, TURN OFF? I knew how to do it
with Windows 98 but it doesn't work for Windows XP.

Hello Jerry!

Right-click on the Desktop and choose New | Shortcut from the pop-up
menu. Browse to the file C:\Windows\ System32\Shutdown.exe, click Next,
name the shortcut, and click Finish. Now right-click on the new shortcut
and choose Properties. In the Target box, append the command line switch
-l (to log off), -s (to shut down), or -r (to reboot).

Got a keyboard with a sleep button? If so then just go into Power
options and set the sleep button to shutdown instead of sleep. My MS
keyboard has a sleep button and this is offered as a choice in Power
options for the button.

All I have to do to shutdown is simply hit the sleep button on the
keyboard now.

Do you have a "sleep" button on your keyboard? If so, go to Control
Panel.... Power Options... Advanced. Go down to the text "when I press the
sleep button on my computer" and toggle the window under it to read "shut
down".

If not, you can use the window just above it to have the power button on
your computer run the shutdown sequence.
