Trying to set up home network

Ok. I am trying to set up my homenet work. I get as far as using the wizard
to set up. It starts fine than a icon pops up by my internet connection i am
sharing with the hand icon..and a message by it saying shared..than just as
it is about to finish it says error and the shared icon goes away. Both pc's
are running xp i am using linksys 5 port switch wired and my internet
provider is verizon dsl. I have the main computer hooked up to the dsl modem
via usb and the 2nd computer is hooked via cat cable to the switch and the
main computer is hooked to the switch also via cat cable. Any ideas or
configuations i am doing wrong? Or maybe step by step on this hook up? Thanks
soo much.
 
The proper way to hook things up is incoming DSL to switch/router then each
computer connected to the router. You're confusing the computer by having
the computer connected to the DSL and to the switch.
