Trying to send out a letter to distribution list, but error...

Hello all!

I am encountering a problem and could really use some assistance. I have
created an e-mail distribution list of about 100 people. I am attempting to
send out an e-mail to the list, but I keep getting this error message:

"Task 'mail.flowwithlife.com - sending' reported error. The server
responded: 550, sorry, too many recipients."

So, thinking that this was a server issue of not being set to be able to
send enough e-mails out at once, I contacted my server. This was his reponse:

"HI Tara,

You are trying to send to too many people in ONE message. You need to
configure Outlook to send separate messages to each person, not one too all
100.

When you do more than around 12-16 per message, you will almost always be
classed as spam and tagged or deleted.

Simply send it to less in each pass.

I then asked how to do this. He responded:

"To be honest I am not 100% sure on that one myself...

If I had to do this one myself I would do a work around like...

Break the list up in to several small 10 user lists...

Then put the list names into a group. That way when you send the e-mail out,
it first goes to the main group. Then to the 10 sub-groups, and then
sub-0groups again if you have a large list, then to the individual
accounts... I know that is more comlicated, but Outlook was never originally
built to do things like this...

I really need to send out a newsletter to my subscribers ASAP, and would
love any help/insight that anyone has. It just seems awfully strange to me
that you cannot send an e-mail to a distribution list larger than 12 - 16
people using the ditribution list feature.

Any help would be SO appreciated!

And your thinking is spot-on. The 550 message is most definitely a response
from the server.

Since you PAY these people to handle your mail, ask them to increase the
limit. They have the ability to do that. It may require a different
account tier, but it can be done.

You should examine how to perform a mail merge. In Outlook Help, look for
"mail merge". That will send one message per contact. You cannot use a DL,
however. Instead you can create a filtered view of your Contacts folder and
use that or you can use separate contacts folders, one for each grouping of
contacts. I'd choose the former.
