Trying to network an XP machine with a W98 via crossover
cable. ip 192.168.0.1 mask 255.255.255.0 and ip
192.168.0.2 mask 255.255.255.0
netbios over tcp/ip enabled
firewalls disabled

W98 can see both computers but can't connect to XP
XP cannot connect to workgroup
Status on XP shows data being sent and recieved

can confirm ip with ipconfig /all
can see other computer with arp -a

can't ping other computer (timeout)

any suggestions????

Don't just disable firewalls. Un-install them, too, while
troubleshooting the network. Then, go to Start | Run | Msconfig and
disable any firewall remnants. Don't re-install firewalls until
everything is working.

How are you trying to connect W98 to XP? What exactly happens when
you do it? What does the error message say?

How are you trying to connect XP to the workgroup? What exactly
happens when you do it? What does the error message say?
