Hi there

I'm trying to network 2 XP Pro SP2 PC's together using a crossover cable.
I have done the following :-

1) Assigned the following IP Addresses :-
pc1 = 192.168.0.1
pc2 = 192.168.0.2
Subnet = 255.255.255.0

2) Named each PC Uniquely and assigned MSHOME as the Workgroup for both
3) I've Disabled WIN Firewalls & Nortons firewall from PC1 and McAfees
from Pc2
4) I ve shared folders on both machines.
5) User Id's and passwords on both machines are the same when logging in
6) Windows Network setup wizard has been run

I can seen the shares in WIN Explorer, but I get a message saying I might not
have right permissions -- I have ensured that permissions are correctly set

I can ping the loop back on both pc's (127.0.0.1)
Ping timeouts if I ping from pc1 to 2 and pc2 to 1

I'm pulling my hair out !!!! please help ... b4 I'm totally bald

Have you tried disabling Simple File Sharing?

Yup ... Gordon .. I ve disabled Simple File Sharing on both machines.

Right click on the shared folders, choose the "Sharing and Security" option,
click on the Security tab, physically add each user and give each user full
control. (I've had to do this in the past....)

Well my hair is gone, but maybe we can slow down your hair loss. I'm going to
give you lots of reading (sorry). Follow the links in the articles too.

The error "... permission denied ..." or its variants can have several causes.

A personal firewall is one possibility, and disabling McAfee / Norton doesn't
always work.

Check the shares, and the accounts, involved. Make sure that they are all
properly setup.

Are you using Guest, or non-Guest, authentication? If Guest is involved (and is
Guest activated for network access?), check restrictanonymous:
